The Grain Farming Center named after A.I. Barayev was visited by a group of farmers from Germany with the support of the KFM within the framework of the project «Improving the competencies of enterprises in the field of sustainable milk production in Kazakhstan» on the basis of «Baiserke Agro» LLP.

The main purpose of organizing this meeting of German farmers with scientists from a large Kazakh scientific center is the interest of the guests in the breeding achievements of agricultural crops and agrotechnological methods of their cultivation in the northern regions of Kazakhstan.

Dolinny Yuri Yurievich, Deputy Chairman of the Board for Science, familiarized the participants of the German delegation with the activities of the Center, while he noted that the main specialization of the Center is the scientific provision of the needs of the agro-industrial complex with varieties of agricultural plants and advanced farming systems for sustainable development. In turn, German farmers shared their experience of interaction with scientific centers in Germany.

Further, the head of the department of perennial herb breeding, Nadezhda Filippova, told about how the Center, in extreme soil and climatic conditions of the steppe zone of Northern Kazakhstan, is creating new highly productive and adapted to environmental stress factors varieties of forage crops (perennial cereals and legumes, annual forage crops — Sudanese grass and sorghum) and their seed production.

The guests were interested in many questions regarding climatic features, crop diversification, crop rotations and processing methods, the use of mineral fertilizers, and how much the Center’s products are in demand among farmers from the regions and how cooperation is maintained. Kanat Ashkeevich Akshalov, head of the Laboratory of Agro-landscape and Adaptive Technology, highlighted this whole range of issues during the meeting on specific figures and facts, conducting a comparative analysis on Kazakh and European issues of agriculture, having extensive fruitful cooperation with scientists from Germany and Canada.

Directly on the experimental fields, German farmers were able to see the overall picture of crops and ask other questions of interest. There was a good business exchange of opinions and knowledge in a practical way, which caused a friendly disposition among the parties.

It should be noted that such meetings are mutually enriching, give food for thought, arousing trust in each other among the participants of the meetings despite the difference in cultures and climatic conditions.
