Due to the large differences in the ecological and geographical origin of the collection of sorts, they have different morphological types and potentials for productivity, grain quality, and disease resistance.
At A.Barayev SPCGF has completed hybridization in the selection group of spring soft wheat for resistance to drought and stress factors. In the breeding nursery, 54 parent forms of the world gene pool of spring soft wheat were planted, represented by the regions of Northern Kazakhstan, the Volga region, Western and Eastern Siberia, and the Middle Urals.
Due to the large differences in the ecological and geographical origin of the collection of sorts, they have different morphological types and potentials for productivity, grain quality, and disease resistance.
Hybridization was carried out by the “tvel-method”. Over 175 crossbreeding combinations have been performed. Two methods of obtaining hybrid grains were used: crossbreeding in the field and laboratory conditions on a nutrient medium. Distilled water, sucrose, citric acid, and chloramine served as a nutrient substrate.
Laboratory conditions allow us to get away from the harmful effects of atmospheric and soil drought and to carry out a greater volume of crosses. Based on the results of the study, the resulting hybrid forms will be included in the selection process.
