Today, the sort is one of the determining factors in the efficiency of plant science and the cheapest and most promising means of grain production.
The first stage of breeding work with spring wheat, aimed at creating a new sort is the process of sexual hybridization. In 2019, 180 parental forms of various ecological and geographical origins were sown in the hybridization nursery: USA, Canada, Australia, Russia, South Africa, Afghanistan, Ukraine, India, China, Kazakhstan, etc. Breeders conducted more than 400 targeted combinations of spring wheat crosses to obtaining genotypes with high environmental plasticity and resistance to biotic and abiotic environmental factors.
Modern breeding programs provide for the targeted creation of new source material with widespread use of ecologically-geographically distant forms, which is important both for increasing genetic diversity and for the progress of selection in general.
