A. Barayev SPCGF will cooperate with the Islamic Organization for Food Security

The Secretariat of the Islamic Organization for Food Security (IOFS) on September 18 visited the Scientific-production Center for Grain Farming named after A. Barayev to get acquainted with the potential of Kazakhstan's agriculture in the field of grain production, exchange views on IOFS projects.  The parties also discussed the creation of the bank of genetic resources.  This was reported by the press service of the National Agrarian Scientific and Educational Center (NASEC).

 According to the press service, the IOFS delegation was headed by Ismail Abdul Hamid, Advisor to the Director General for Research and Technology.

 "SPC for grain farming named after  A.I.Barayev was designated by the Regional Center of Excellence of the Asian Subgroup II of the member countries of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation.  This center, in turn, will function to conduct and coordinate training and research programs among the OIC member states in their respective regions, ” noted in NASEC.

 As it was told by the acting head  General Director Bakyt Irmulatov, annually more than 21 thousand samples of spring wheat are studied in various breeding nurseries, more than 400 combinations of crosses of local adapted varieties with sources of economically valuable traits are performed, there is a large gene pool for spring wheat from various countries: Kazakhstan, Russia, Australia,  Canada, CIMMYT International Center, South Africa, India, Afghanistan, France, USA, China, Sweden and others.  More than 6,500 samples are in medium-term storage, and the gene pool is annually replenished with 70 varieties.  Moreover, the technological assessment of breeding samples is carried out according to 22 quality indicators.

 During the visit, the parties discussed further actions of the SPCGF as a Regional Center of Excellence, as well as promising areas of mutually beneficial cooperation.скачать dle 12.0
