Archives are the memory of the people

Centuries pass, one generation replaces another, but the memory of the past of each of us is preserved in such a unique and invaluable source as archival documents. Looking through the archive file, you scroll through the living pages of the distant and close history of your Homeland, family, past generations and states, organizations where you once worked or your relatives and friends worked.
For the present, archives remain vital, they bring us back to the past as bridges of time, give us the opportunity to look into the years that have long passed. Flipping through and reading archival files, you make an excursion into the past, a kind of history lesson.

The archive of our organization contains the personal files of more than four thousand people. Among them there are 10 doctors of sciences and 159 candidates of sciences. And these are not just archival documents. Behind each personal case there is a huge human labor, a life path, the fate of families and generations.

Having received a job offer for the position of archivist in “SPC GF named after A.I. Barayev” LLP, I agreed immediately, because I started my career in this organization and also because I always liked working with documents, namely archival documents, and attracted by the fact that archival documents are not just documents that carry a certain kind of information, but it is also the history of our settlement, our organization and the people who once lived and worked here.
Like any other profession, the profession of an archivist requires certain knowledge and skills. The knowledge gained earlier when working with documents was very useful, but time does not stand still and requires us to keep up with it, paying attention to changes in both legislation and office management.

The silence of the archive storage, like a seal storing this or that information, allows you to focus on working with documents. Many of the documents stored in the archive have lost their relevance at the moment, but they are of historical importance and value, and such documents are marked “permanent storage period”, in the future they will be deposited in the state archive, in one of its branches. These are documents on the formation of our organization, analytical journals with the results of soil and grain analyses, patent inventions of designers and engineers, printed and handwritten works of our scientists.

For the present, requests for confirmation of work experience in our organization or salary for a particular period of work have been sent to “SPC GF named after A.I. Barayev” LLP. Requests come not only from Kazakhstan, but also from countries near and far abroad. Based on these requests, a certificate confirming work experience or salary is issued or sent by mail. The certificates are printed on the official letterhead of our organization, where the outgoing document number is indicated, the authenticity of this document is confirmed by the signature of the head of the organization and the seal. Also attached to the certificates is a certificate on the renaming of the enterprise, where the names of the organization are listed in chronological order when it was renamed, starting from its original name to the name of today, the so-called historical reference. People send us these requests when they retire, so that the total length of service can be accurately calculated, and based on salary information, a recalculation of the pension is established and assigned, or in case of loss of the work record, in order to restore the work experience.

The development of any society is impossible, and it is impossible to imagine without referring to the historical experience of the development of social relations, society, to the life and work of a particular person. In this, the archives come to the aid of historians, specialists in various fields of activity and ordinary citizens.

The information and knowledge provided by the archives forms the memory of peoples and allows them to systematize their ideas about the past according to the degree of objectivity and reliability, at the same time to identify stereotypes and misconceptions.
Archival documents are the most important and reliable means of obtaining knowledge about the past, which has shown its reliability over the centuries.
Archives play an essential role in preserving and increasing the chronological depth of social and historical memory.
