  On July 26, 2024, the annual Field Day will be held on the basis of the SPC GF named after A.I. Barayev (hereinafter referred to as the Center), demonstrating scientific achievements in the field of breeding original and elite seeds for all approved, recommended varieties of grains, oilseeds, cereals and perennial grasses of the Center for the northern and central regions of Kazakhstan, intensification technologies of cultivation of agricultural crops with elements of precision farming. This year, the event will bring together representatives of the agro-industrial complex in the field of science, production and agribusiness from almost all regions of the country and abroad.

  The scientists of the Center at experimental stations will familiarize the participants with the results of scientific research using agrotechnologies of various farming systems (of varying degrees of intensity) in the arid conditions of the current year. Also, retrospective wheat varieties (created in the early years of the institute’s development), new adapted varieties of soft and durum wheat, huskless forms of barley and oats, millet, buckwheat, Sudanese grass, sunflower, flax, peas, lentils and perennial grasses will be presented at breeding nurseries and nurseries of primary seed production.

  Also, during the event, a demonstration of the capabilities of the software and information complex for managing the production of crop products will be held.

  It is worth noting that the SPC GF named after A.I. Barayev is a leading institution in the republic engaged in applied research on the development of technologies for the cultivation of cereals, legumes, oilseeds, forage crops and the creation of new varieties for the northern, central regions of Kazakhstan.

  The main purpose of the Center is to ensure accelerated scientific and technological development of the economy of the agro-industrial complex of Kazakhstan through the diversification of crop production, the creation of high-quality and competitive varieties, the development and implementation of resource-saving agricultural technologies and the provision of scientific and educational services.

  The main directions of scientific research are to increase the sustainability of crop cultivation, including the preservation and replenishment of the gene pool of crops, practical breeding of 19 types of crops, adaptation and development of new agricultural technologies, services are provided to determine the quality of grain, feed, oilseeds, and to assess agrochemical indicators of soil quality.

  The breeding of agricultural crops in the Center is aimed at creating new varieties with a multi-purpose character, oriented to the domestic market. Work has been intensified on the creation of precocious, drought-resistant, high-yielding varieties of all grain crops.

  The Center has created and entered into the state register of Kazakhstan 105 varieties, including 35 varieties of spring soft wheat; 15 varieties of grain crops, 14 varieties of cereals, 7 varieties of oilseeds and 27 varieties of perennial herbs.

  In the total structure of spring wheat crops in Akmola region, the share of breeding varieties of the SPC of grain farming named after A.I. Barayev has increased since 2018 and by 2023 is 67%, in North Kazakhstan -23%, Kostanay -9%, Karaganda-14. Such, varieties of spring soft wheat as Shortandinskaya 95 improved and Astana are sown on an area of more than 1 million hectares. Currently, the production of original seeds is carried out in 18 crops, 50 varieties.

  The connection between science and production is becoming closer every year. Demonstration experiments and production tests are carried out directly on farms. Every year, scientists of SPC GF hold knowledge dissemination events for farmers, which are attended by more than 500 participants, these are scientific and practical seminars in online and offline mode, webinars and Field Days. The center provides online consultations to farmers and visits to the fields of partner farms, provides scientific advice and support for crop production, mainly the cultivation of varieties of agricultural crops of SPC GF breeding.
