Today we want to tell you about one of the first women soil scientists of the A.I. Barayev Scientific-production center for grain farming, awarded the Lenin Prize, A. Zaitseva.

Zaitseva Alexandra Alekseyevna was born on October 4, 1900 at the Nikolaevskaya station, now Krasnodar territory. She is soil agronomist, candidate agricultural sciences (1959 year), Lenin Prize laureate (1972 year). She graduated in 1929 from the Agricultural Academy named after K.A. Timiryazeva (Moscow), where she worked as a laboratory assistant in 1929-1931, until 1934 she was a senior scientific worker at the Institute of Rubber and Gutta-percha (Moscow). In 1934-1937 she worked as a senior researcher at the All-Union Institute of Plant Production (Leningrad). In 1937-1938 she worked as a senior researcher at the Yaroslavl State Breeding Station. In 1938-1959 he was the head of the experimental site, senior researcher, head of the department of agrotechnics of the experimental station (the village of Dolinka, Karaganda region). In 1959-1980 she worked at the All-Union research institute of grain farming as the head of the department of agricultural soil science, a senior researcher at the soil fertility laboratory. The main direction of scientific activity is the development of theoretical foundations and comprehensive measures to protect soil from erosion. She was author of over 100 publications and 10 monographs.

The fundamental works of A. Zaitseva on the development of theoretical foundations and a system of measures to protect soils from erosion, research on the reclamation of solonetzes and increase the fertility of erosion-hazardous lands is a tremendous contribution to domestic science.

Her work was marked by three medals “For labor valour”, “For the development of virgin and fallow lands”, “For valiant labor”. In 1972, A. Zaitseva was awarded the Lenin Prize for developing a system of measures to protect soils from wind erosion in Northern Kazakhstan and in the steppe regions of Western Siberia. A. Zaitseva passed away on January 12, 1981 in the village of Shortandy, Tselinograd region.
