The scientists of SPC GF shared their experience of breeding and seed production with Turkish colleagues

From 31.03 to 6.04.2024, within the grant financing AP 14869777 «Development and application of simple SNP genotyping methods for creating new drought-resistant and high-yielding chickpea breeding lines with a high protein content», the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan employees of the Scientific and Production Center of Grain Farming named after A. I. Barayev, Oshergina I.P., Ten E.A. and Khassanova G.Zh., visited Akdeniz University, Faculty of Agriculture, Department of Agricultural Biotechnology in Antalya, Turkey.
The purpose of this business trip was to get acquainted with the ongoing research at Akdeniz University, as well as to study the experience of Turkish scientists in the field of biotechnology. During the business visit, the staff of the SPC GF visited the laboratories of tissue culture, genetic engineering, and met with representatives of the technology center.
Professor, Dr. Faik Kantar told about the features of priority areas in the breeding and seed production of field crops in Turkey.
Professor, Dr. Nedim Mutlu, a specialist in biotechnology and genetics, organized a visit to a number of greenhouse complexes for the staff of the SPC GF, a meeting with breeders on various crops such as rapeseed, sunflower, chickpeas, lentils, beans, tomatoes, pepper. In addition, Besides, Turkish scientists shared their methodology for hybridization of these crops both in the field and in greenhouse conditions.
At the end of the trip, the Turkish side organized a seminar where the scientists of the center shared their experience and achievements in the breeding of legumes and oilseeds.
According to results, the scientists of Akdeniz University expressed their intention to expand the boundaries of cooperation and conduct joint scientific research.
