Scientists od SPCGF have harvested the seeds of Sudanese grass of a new variety "Nick".

At the stationary field of the Department for selection of perennial herbs of A.I. Barayev SPCGF the seeds of Sudanese grass of the new promising variety “Nick” were cleaned.The new variety was created in 2018 and is under study in SVT.The variety of Sudanese grass “Nick” is produced by breeders of LLP "SPCGF named after A.I. Barayev" jointly with SFSCA RAS "SibSRI of fodder" Novosibirsk region, Krasnoobsk village, by the method of polycross and selections on the basis of the best polycross descendants of mutant origin according to ARCS. A bush is upright. The stem is cylindrical, smooth, 240-260 cm tall. The bushiness is medium (2-4 stems per bush). The leaf is wide-linear, juicy in size of 38x2 to 65x4 cm. The seeds are egg-shaped, dark brown.Growing period is 100-110 days. Average yield of green mass of the 1st mowing is 252, dry substance - 55, seeds - 19.0 c/ha. In favorable years the yield of green mass for two bites reaches 316, seeds - 21 c/ha.Do not dwell. It is suitable for mechanized harvesting, resistant to drought and salinization of soil. Damage of dust head was not noted. The variety of Sudanese grass “Nick” is recommended for cultivation in North Kazakhstan, Akmola and Karaganda regions.
