Kolmakov Pavel Petrovich, agricultural scientist, Doctor of agricultural sciences. P.Kolmakov was born on June 13, 1903 in Kolpakovka village, Krasnoufim district of Sverdlovsk region.

In 1926-1935 he studied at Krasnoufim agricultural college. In the period from 1935 to 1961 he worked in the Shadrinskiy district of the Kurgan region as chief agronomist, director of the experimental field, chairman of the collective farm, head of the All-Union scientific research institute of agricultural sciences’ stronghold. In 1961-1976 he worked at All-Union scientific research institute for grain farming: head of laboratories of agricultural machinery for field crops and weed control. The main focus of scientific activity was the fight against weeds in soil-protective farming. The greatest harm in crops by the early 1960s was caused by oat grass, the clogging of crops reached 77% in North Kazakhstan. Therefore, in the early years of the laboratory, special attention was paid to research on biology and methods of destroying this weed. The results of the experiments made it possible to recommend to the production the efficient agricultural techniques for the destruction of oat grass.

The wide introduction of laboratory recommendations into the production proved their effectiveness, as evidenced by the decrease in the contamination of crops by oat grass in North Kazakhstan by 1975 from 77 to 10 - 12%. In 1964, under the authorship of P.P.Kolmakov was published book: Oat grass and methods of fight against it in Virgin land areas. This book was supplemented with new material and reprinted in 1975. In 1968, P.Kalmakov defended his thesis for the degree of Doctor of Agricultural Sciences "Oat grass and measures to combat it in the Virgin land areas" (Saratov).
