The Kazakh Research Institute of Agriculture and Crop Production (Almaty) has long maintained scientific relations with the SPC GF named after A.I. Barayev (Shortandy) within the framework of the programs of the Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Kazakhstan and international projects on perennial forage crops. The projects are aimed at increasing drought tolerance in the context of global warming.

Due to the fact that the SPC GF named after A.I. Barayev is located in the steppe zone in severe climatic conditions, it is an ecological point for assessing the winter hardiness and drought resistance of alfalfa. Especially when using wild breeding species. In the past (2019-2023), 96 samples of the CWR form received from the gene pool of pasture crops in Australia and the South Australian Development Institute (SARDI) were evaluated at the station of the SPC GF named after A.I. Barayev. Breeding in this direction continues.

By the staff of the Department of perennial herbs of the SPC GF named after A.I. Barayev, headed by the head of the department Filippova N.I. (Candidate of Agricultural Sciences) and the renowned breeder Parsaev E.I., 96 alfalfa samples were sown to assess their winter hardiness.

Breeding work at the SPC GF named after A.I. Barayev for perennial grasses (wheat grass, awnless brome, blue wheatgrass, Psathyrostachys juncea, alfalfa, sainfoin, sweet clover) and annual forage crops (Sudanese grass, sorghum, etc.) is carried out on a large scale in the Northern region.

Perspectives for the development of joint work with the Chairman of the Board, Savin T.V., were discussed. The Creative Union will undoubtedly give its results.
